At high temperatures
The thermal stability and self lubricating properties of our materials allow their use at temperatures exceeding 150°C where standard lubricants can not be used. Typical uses being Furnaces, Dryers, Heated Mixers, Chemical Installations, Paper Pulp Manufacture.

Where lubricants are prohibited
Carbons and Graphites are critical in applications where lubrication of any sort, even vapour is prohibited due to the process. Examples include Food, Pharmaceutical, Textiles.

Where corrosive fluids/atmospheres
Being chemically inert and corrosion resistant our materials can operate where lubricants are not recomended

Where lubricants are difficult or expensive
The efficient dry self-lubricating properties of Carbon and Graphite make them ideal in applications where conventional lubricants will decompose.

Where access is a problem
The maintenance of certain types of equipment is virtually impossible without Carbon and Graphite materials due to difficult access to moving parts. Examples being: marine equipment, pumps, metering pumps and certain equipment in the textile/chemical industries

Where weight is critical
Carbon has a density of 1.5-2.5 much lower than metals

Working with carbon and graphites

Carbon and Graphite materials are surprisingly versatile and lend themselves to a variety of applications. Our materials are readily machined in intricate detail to close tolerances and will accept a range of surface finishes from rough through to mirror polished.

With compressive performance 4 times greater than its shear strength Carbon and Graphite components respond well in applications where hoop stress is a factor such as shrink fitting into assemblies.

They exhibit good resistance to solid impurities making them the ideal choice for arduous applications. With a tolerance of many counterface materials including grey cast iron, chromium, Silican and tungsten Carbides, Aluminium Oxide, and of course Carbon our materials perform where compatibility is an issue.

If your requirement is for a stable static sealing medium we can offer our flexible graphite Papyex®. Papyex® is available in a range of thicknesses and purities with the option of interlayer reinforcement to add strength. Its uses span industry embracing aerospace, nuclear, automotive, petrochemical and more.

Material Enhancement

Whilst the performance of our base materials is excellent, we continue to strive to extend the working boundaries of our materials. By the addition of mineral salt impregnations high temperature oxidation resistance is improved considerably. Mechanical strength is enhanced by the addition of metal impregnants whilst porosity can be filled using resins rendering our product the ideal choice for dynamicl seals.

We also provide surface treatment of finished graphite components converting the outer surface to silicon carbide this offers excellent wear resistance while retaining the weight advantage of graphite.
